Police swarmed to Coco Reef following an “unconfirmed firearm incident” at the South Shore, Paget hotel yesterday. The response followed what grounds staff described as a man being chased by another man.Inspector Troy Glasgow of the Public Protection Department said police were called shortly after 2pm by a person requesting assistance who felt “under threat”.“We acted as if it was a worst-case scenario,” he added. In a measure of how seriously police are treating any potential firearm scare, the response was immediate, he said.Officers held watch over the entrance to Bermuda College, where students are currently out on mid-semester break.Numerous cars and a number of armed police descended on the hotel and environs, drawing bemused glances from a few tourists.Insp Glasgow said he couldn’t verify or deny whether a firearm had been involved saying that the investigation was in its “very early” stages.No-one was arrested.Business at the hotel was not affected, and manager Ken Watson said staff weren’t aware of any incident. Evelyn James-Barnett at the nearby Bermuda College said nothing had taken place on campus.Police asked for anyone who saw anything unusual in the area around 2pm yesterday to call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 or police on 295-0011.
