Three men apparently armed with a gun forced their way into a Mount Hope Lane, Smith’s, residence at 1am today, stealing jewellery, a mobile phone and a 40in television before making their escape.

According to police, the aggravated burglary was not likely to be a random attack, as “early indicators suggest there may have been a pre-existing relationship with one of the victims and the suspects”.

The incident is not connected to previous “confrontational burglaries”, for which a suspect is now in police custody.
