An assault on a 71-year-old man was reported this morning in Sandys, in the area of Long Bay Lane and Daniels Head.

An area resident sustained lacerations to the face and head after being set upon by an unknown man wielding a crash helmet, according to police.

Authorities responded to the incident shortly before 11.30am.

The suspect, described as dark-complexioned and wearing a blue and red football jersey, fled the scene on a dark coloured motorcycle. The victim, who remained conscious, was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
