A 54-year-old Devonshire man has been arrested in connection with a counterfeit US $50 note tendered at the RUBiS Causeway Service Station on Tuesday evening, according to police.

A spokesman advised residents to look out for fake bills bearing the serial number MD36441997A.

In the event of counterfeit cash being detected during a transaction, staff at businesses were advised to hold on to the bill, note the description of the individual who tendered it, and contact police immediately.

Similarly, members of the public should take a few seconds to examine any money they receive — larger denominations in particular.

Persons who may have unknowingly received counterfeit currency were encouraged to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 to report the matter.

It is an offence to pass to another, possess, make or reproduce any counterfeit currency, punishable by up to five years in prison, the spokesman added.
