Two Bermudian men have been arrested on terrorism related charges in Britain.

Bermuda Police Service confirmed the pair, who have been living in the UK “for a significant period of time”, were arrested after UK authorities were alerted to a residence in Whitefield, Bury, Greater Manchester on June 4.

The two men were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in a UK court for a preliminary hearing at the Old Bailey on Friday next week.

Greater Manchester Police reported on its website Hisham Waheed Muhammad, 24, was charged with preparing for acts of terrorism.

Faisal Ibn al Hajj Muhammad Abu Ahmad, 23, was charged with failing to notify the authorities.

Both men appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Greater Manchester Police said they launched an investigation on June 4 after “reports that suspicious items had been found at an address on Victoria Avenue”.

The BBC reported that weapons and other combat equipment, along with extremist material supporting so-called Islamic State, were allegedly found at the home.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: “The Bermuda Police Service is liaising with UK authorities regarding this matter and conducting local inquiries. However, to date no information has come to light that raises similar concerns locally.”
