Man stabbed during Warwick break-in

Police have launched a manhunt after a burglar stabbed a 64-year-old man in the stomach in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The intruder attacked the man during a break-in just before 4.30am at the house on Westering Lane, Warwick.

A police spokesman said the victim was asleep in his living room and woke to discover a man in the room.

The householder confronted the man and alerted his family, but was stabbed in the stomach with a small knife as he struggled with the burglar.

A male relative suffered a cut to his hand in the struggle.

The raider fled through the kitchen door and is believed to have left the area on foot.

The 64-year-old was treated at the scene by paramedics and later taken to King Edward VII Hospital.

The suspect was 5ft 6in tall and wearing dark clothing and a mask.

Police appealed for anyone with information which could help their inquiry to contact them.
