Police appeal over stabbing incident outside sports club
A man was stabbed in a brawl outside a sports club last night, police said today.
The man was knifed after a fight broke out in the car park at Southampton Rangers’ ground on South Road.
Police said that the injured man – whose injuries were said not to be life-threatening – had left the scene when officers arrived, but he was traced on nearby Horseshoe Road.
The man was treated at the scene by EMTs before an ambulance took him to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
A police spokesman said: “There were several individuals at the scene when the incident occurred and when police arrived, but no one was willing to provide information to the officers.”
But he added officers discovered the victim was at the club with a group of men, but they were asked to leave because of bad behaviour.
The spokesman said: “He, along with the other males, then went outside and is said to have gotten into an altercation with other patrons.
“Most of the individuals dispersed before police arrival and the club was closed immediately after the incident.”
The incident happened about 9.10pm and police have appealed for witnesses.
Anyone that could help the inquiry should contact 211, the main police number on 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477.
