Two injured after chain snatch

Two women sustained minor injuries after falling from a motorcycle yesterday morning when another rider snatched a chain off the driver’s neck.

A police spokesman said the robbery occurred at 9.30am on Ord Road, Paget, near the junction with Cherry Hill Park.

A 19-year-old woman was driving her 16-year-old friend to school when a white motorcycle with two unknown men approached.

One of the men reportedly snatched a gold chain off the driver’s neck, causing her to lose control and both women to fall from the bike.

The suspects reportedly made a U-turn, driving away west on Ord Road.

EMTs attended and checked the victims’ injuries.

Both suspects had their faces covered. The pillion was passenger wearing a black jacket, while the rider wore a white helmet.

Anyone with information is asked to call 211 or the main police number, 295-0011.

Police were next on mobile patrol on Ord Road at about 10.30am when they saw a motorcycle overtaking a line of traffic on the left.

They stopped the rider, who was found to have outstanding warrants.

The man was arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a search uncovered a knife with a blade of about 7in.

The suspect could not give a lawful reason for having the knife.

The man was told he could be charged for having a sharply pointed bladed article in a public place, and a court appearance is anticipated.
