Bermuda’s newest correctional officers graduated at a passing out parade at the Co-Ed Facility on Friday.
Michael Weeks, the Minister of National Security, and Keeva Joell-Benjamin, the Commissioner of Corrections, were on hand to congratulate the eight officers.
Mr Weeks said: “Today’s modern corrections officer is an individual who conducts themselves with pride, honesty, integrity, impartiality and high ethical standards.
“Our newest corrections officers are well prepared for the challenges they face. And now more than ever, the public relies on corrections officers to carry out the mission of the department to empower inmates to be responsible and productive citizens.”
The graduates completed a ten-week training course to become full-time corrections officers.
After years of hiatus, the Baton of Honour Award returned and was awarded to Officer Jamel Thomas. He accepted the award from Mr Weeks on behalf of the Department of Corrections.
