Senator pays tribute to murder victim who had ‘pleasant, teddy bear type personality’
A senator yesterday extended her condolences to the family of Keni Outerbridge who was fatally shot on Ord Road – revealing that he was a former student of hers.
In a heartfelt tribute, Emily Gail Dill, a government senator and the Junior Minister for National Security and Transport, said: “I remember fondly Keni, who had a pleasant, teddy-bear type personality.
“He had an extremely keen mind and a very strong work ethic at the time that I knew him and this was exemplified in his performance in the work study opportunity that he engaged in with our community partners – I remember him as a young middle schooler.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing and we pray his family will be comforted by the support and love of the Bermuda community and pleasant memories of his life and short sojourn here on earth.”
Mr Outerbridge, 20, was murdered on December 6 on Ord Road in Paget.
He had been at a party with friends before being shot at the property at the junction of Tribe Road No 5 at about 10.15pm.
He was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead after being taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
Mr Outerbridge, the ninth murder victim of the year, featured in The Royal Gazette in 2017 when he volunteered to help a team in the America’s Cup sailing tournament.
Speaking during the motion to adjourn at the Senate sitting, several senators associated themselves with Dr Dill’s remarks including Doug DeCouto, a One Bermuda Alliance senator.
Mr DeCouto added: “It being the end of the year I would like to further extend my condolences to the family and friends of all those that have been killed or murdered this year … I know that is heavy on all of us.
“I would also like to extend my condolences to the family and friends of those who have perished in traffic and automobile accidents.”
Keni Outerbridge’s murder remains under investigation.
Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to contact the non-emergency reporting number, 211, the main police number, 295-0011 or, Acting Detective Sergeant Odessa Philip on 717-2193.
