Holiday weekend: no major antisocial behaviour
No major incidents of antisocial behaviour were reported over the National Heroes Day weekend. However, a series of arrests were made for impaired driving, drugs and outstanding warrants
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said officers engaged 537 people at roadside sobriety checkpoints from Friday to Monday.
The checks resulted in eight arrests for impaired driving.
Another 56 stop-and-searches were carried out over the weekend, leading to eight arrests for outstanding warrants and one for drug possession.
“For the month of June so far, 20 people have been arrested for impaired driving offences,” the spokesman said.
“The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise that if you consume alcohol, do not ride or drive.”
Officers also issued 35 moving violation tickets and 22 motorists received written warnings.
The spokesman said that officers carried out 83 stop-and-searches during carnival events across the island, which resulted in eight arrests for drugs or outstanding warrants.
“A total of 19 moving violation tickets were also issued, with one motorist receiving an official written warning,” he added.
