Teen arrested over bike theft
A 19-year-old was arrested on Friday morning, with a 15-year-old’s arrest said to be “imminent”, on suspicion of bike theft.
A police mobile patrol on South Road at 1.45am on Friday came upon a man riding west on a motorcycle and using his foot to push another bike, believed to have been stolen, which was being ridden by another male.
The two were encountered near the Paraquet Restaurant.
Police said the rider of the suspected stolen bike jumped off on sight of the officers and got on the back of the other vehicle.
The two were called on to stop but sped off.
They were spotted near Tribe Road No 5, where the rider lost control of the bike as he again sped away, throwing the pillion passenger off the back.
He was caught after a short foot chase.
Police said they were aware of the identity of the rider with an arrest expected shortly.
