Mail processing returns after cyberattack hit services
The island’s mail processing is back up-and-running, according to the Bermuda Post Office.
International mail will be dispatched for delivery starting tomorrow.
The updates came in the wake of a cyberattack launched on September 20 that crippled many government services, forcing a shutdown of the IT network to protect the rest of the system.
The BPO said that during the systems outage, mail could not be dispatched because of international digital and scanning requirements.
The scans are in accordance with the Universal Postal Union and US and European security and customs regulations.
Express mail items and related small packages and letters were processed manually and delivered to BPO customers.
During the outage, the BPO maintained regular contact with its international partners and provided updates on mail delays.
Overseas partners will also be informed about service restoration and the resumption of mail delivery.
