A man was arrested on Christmas Day after he wielded a knife and threatened to stab police officers.

The Bermuda Police Service said in a statement that officers responded to a reported domestic incident in the Beacon Hill Lane area of Sandys.

“On arrival, officers engaged the suspect, a 22-year-old-male, who was acting in an aggressive manner and threatening police,” they said.

“The suspect brandished a knife and threatened to stab officers. Additional officers attended the scene and the suspect was subsequently arrested.”

The incident was one of several to take place over the festive holiday weekend, with police making a total of 15 arrests.

At about 8.20pm on Friday, officers on mobile patrol on South Road in Warwick attempted to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation.

The rider, a 16-year-old male, refused to stop and tried to evade police.

“The vehicle was subsequently pulled over and the rider was searched,” the BPS said.

“During the search, officers recovered a knife, along with a quantity of suspected controlled drugs, which has been conveyed to the government analyst for testing.”

Police made another suspected drug seizure on Saturday night when officers saw a motorcycle travelling on Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton Parish shortly before 11pm.

“Officers signalled for the vehicle to stop but the rider instead sped up before, turning on to the Grotto Bay Hotel property,” the BPS said.

“The rider and pillion passenger then abandoned the bike and escaped on foot. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and recovered a quantity of suspected controlled drugs believed to be cocaine, cannabis, cannabis resin and heroin.”

Shortly before midnight that same night, officers found a stolen motorcycle on Middle Town Lane in Pembroke.

The BPS statement said that officers had approached two men in all black clothing on a motorcycle when they both jumped off the vehicle and fled on foot.

While officers were unable to catch the suspects, the cycle was impounded and a check revealed that the vehicle had previously been reported stolen.

At about 4pm on Tuesday evening, police responded to a report of a disturbance at Southampton Rangers.

“Upon arrival, a 34-year-old-male attempted to prevent officers from entering the premises,” the statement said.

“As a result, he was arrested for obstruction. A subsequent search of the subject resulted in the recovery of an imitation firearm.”

The BPS added that seven people were arrested for driving while impaired between 5pm on Friday and 5am yesterday.

“The highest breathalysed reading proved to be 172mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood,” the statement said.

“The lowest was 141mg. The legal limit is 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.”

The statement added that two people were arrested for outstanding warrants and three were arrested for traffic offences, including two people caught driving while suspended by the courts.
