Convicted murderer Kamal Worrell will be sentenced for his crimes at a hearing this month.

Worrell was found guilty of the murder of Chavelle Dillon-Burgess by a majority verdict at his trial last month.

The former lawyer was also found guilty of seven charges of common assault.

The killing took place on or around April 11, 2020. Ms Dillon-Burgess’s family had reported her missing on April 30, but her body has never been found.

Worrell has been in custody since the guilty verdict was delivered on January 10 and appeared at today’s arraignment session via video link from the Westgate Correctional Facility.

Cindy Clarke, the Director of Public Prosecutions, requested that Worrell be sentenced on February 22.

Asked by Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe if that date was satisfactory, Worrell, dressed in a regulation orange prison uniform, replied: “I would ask that the sentence be done as soon as possible. I’m in the court’s hands.”

Mr Justice Wolffe then ordered that the sentencing hearing be held on February 22.

Also appearing in today’s arraignments hearing were Gareath Adderley, a former Commissioner of St John Ambulance, and Christopher Clarke, a former police inspector, who jointly face corruption charges.

A trial date for the two men has been tentatively set for April 8.
