Police launch fresh appeal on anniversary of murder
Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to the murder of Kyari Flood, who was shot dead a year ago today.
Mr Flood’s body was found by a member of the public in a secluded area covered by trees and shrubbery off of Border Lane South, Friswells Road, Pembroke, at about 1pm on February 13, 2023.
The 23-year-old was the first murder victim of last year.
Two men were arrested soon after the discovery of Mr Flood’s body but were later released on police bail without being charged.
At the time, police said the killing may have been linked to reports of gunshots heard by residents over a wide area the night before the discovery of the young man’s body.
Detective Inspector Jason Smith of the Bermuda Police Service’s serious crimes unit said today: “I wish to thank those members of the public who have so far come forward and provided us with information on this matter.
“Please understand that any information, even if you think it to be insignificant, could prove valuable to our ongoing investigation.”
He added: “While we are deeply appreciative of the assistance we’ve received from the public so far, we know there are other members of the community who have information that could prove helpful in solving this crime, bringing those responsible for Mr Flood’s murder to justice.
“We urgently need to hear from you. Please, reach out to me by calling 717-0864, 247-1218 or via e-mail at jsmith2@bps.bm.”
Mr Flood, who lived in Pembroke, had been known to the courts for a robbery in January 2018 but he also spent time in the UK and received permission to live in Britain with his father while on probation.
However, he was given jail time in 2020 after he returned to the island without informing his probation officer.
A relative said that Mr Flood’s spell in prison was “pivotal” in his decision to alter his life.
Mr Flood had been the victim of a gun attack before, in a shooting incident in March 2020 on Court Street in Hamilton that claimed the life of Clarke Fox.
He was wounded when two people on a motorcycle chased and shot them.
Mr Flood was described by his family as someone set on reforming his life. He had steady employment and was looking forward to returning to England to his father and sister.
