Police said yesterday that investigations were launched into two separate thefts in the West End this week.

The Bermuda Police Service said that a report was made soon after 4.15pm on Tuesday about a theft from the back of a rental auxiliary cycle.

A Canadian national told officers that while driving along Somerset Road in Sandys with another Canadian visitor as a pillion passenger, the back of their scooter was bumped by a black motorcycle.

Two people were on the second vehicle, both of whom wore dark visors.

They then took a black-and-purple knapsack from the basket of the rental scooter, which contained cash and electronic devices, before escaping.

Police were called to Sandys at about 10pm on Tuesday to a report of a motorcycle theft from Middle Road.

A woman resident told officers that she was travelling east when her helmet fell off.

The BPS said: “She parked the bike in the bus lay-by along Middle Road near the junction with George’s Bay Road, Sandys, and went to retrieve her helmet.

“As she did so, an unknown male who was standing in the bus lay-by, proceeded to get on to the motorcycle and rode off in a westerly direction.”

The suspect was described as being 5ft 7in, with a dark complexion and wore black clothing and a black helmet.

The stolen motorcycle was said to be a black Sym HD 125 with the licence plate CN448.

Inquiries into both incidents continued and anyone with information was asked to call the main police number, 295-0011.
