A Royal Bermuda Regiment soldier has been arrested at the airport after returning to the island from a two-week training camp in North Carolina.

A police spokesman confirmed that the RBR reservist was apprehended on Saturday.

The spokesman said: “The 47-year-old male was arrested following the discovery of items liable for seizure inside his luggage, upon his return to the island on Saturday.

“This matter is now under investigation and no further information will be provided at this time.”

More than 100 members of the regiment travelled to Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina to take part in Exercise Island Warrior 24.
