Salvation Army to host prayer vigil
The Salvation Army is to hold a prayer vigil “to shine some light into the darkness” following a series of violent crimes in the past five days.
The charity will bring its members and band to offer solace to the island at an open grassy area on the corner of Friswells Road and Roberts Avenue in Devonshire, not far from the organisation’s headquarters.
Major Cathy Simms, the Salvation Army’s Bermuda commander, said the open-air gathering was being offered after events this week had been “unnerving” and “overwhelming”.
It comes in the wake of a tragedy for the Friswells Hill community after four people were found dead on Sunday at a South Terrace home.
It also follows the shooting dead of two men early Thursday in the West End.
Major Simms said: “We are extending an invitation to the community to join us for this gathering to show some love to our neighbours.
“It will be an informal gathering where we will share prayer together, listen to some uplifting music and be available to converse and pray with residents in the neighbourhood.
“Let’s come together as a community of believers and pray and share the love of Jesus with those who are hurting at this time.
“Please make this event a matter of prayer even now today. Thank you in advance for your prayerful support and we look forward to seeing you there.
The vigil will be held today from 7.15pm.
Another group has organised a prayer vigil for Sunday evening on the outskirts of Hamilton at 91 Reid Street, near Spurling Hill.
The Church of God Victory Kingdom Worship Centre announced the session of prayer to be held from 6pm to 8pm.
