Two people have been arrested in connection with inquiries into the fatal shooting of two teenagers this month, police revealed yesterday.

The Bermuda Police Service said that warrants were executed in Sandys yesterday, when the serious crime unit was supported by criminal investigation, gang targeting and police support units.

A spokesman added: “Two suspects were arrested in connection with the investigations into the murders of Razi Garland and Amon Robinson.”

It was confirmed later that both suspects were male.

Mr Garland, 18, and Mr Robinson, 19, were fatally injured in a shooting in the Scaur Hill area at about 6.05am on July 10.

Detective Superintendent Sherwin Joseph, of the BPS crime division, said today: “Our officers continue to work tirelessly to progress these serious matters; however, we need the continued support of our community.

“We are once again appealing for anyone with information to please contact the senior investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Anneka Donawa, on 717-2250 or via e-mail at adonawa@bps.bm”

Information can also be provided by calling the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477.

A BPS spokesman added: “Alternatively, please share the information with a police officer you know.”

Amon Robinson

The Berkeley Institute said in the days after the incident that Mr Garland and Mr Robinson were “cherished members of our graduating class of 2023” and their loss had profoundly affected the school community.

A statement from the school said then: “This tragedy is especially heartbreaking as Razi is the son of one of our esteemed teachers.

“Words cannot express the depth of our anguish for our colleague and both extended families during this incredibly difficult time.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the Garland and Robinson families. This tragedy has rocked our school community, and there are no words to adequately convey our sorrow.

“We are committed to supporting our colleague and each other through this painful period and honouring the memories of Razi and Amon.”

Mr Garland was a former deputy head boy at Berkeley, Green House captain and a recipient of multiple scholarships.

Mr Robinson was highlighted for his work in the Devonshire community last year when he volunteered to help clear out cane grass in several areas.

The pair appeared together on a podcast on the YouTube channel The Black Excellence Club about ten months ago, when they spoke about their journeys through school.

Mr Garland said he dreamt of becoming a psychologist, a career he thought was necessary to counsel the island’s teenagers through high school, while Mr Robinson also had plans to advance his academic qualifications.
