A rumour spreading over social media about an alleged shooting at the Transport Control Department headquarters is false, police have confirmed.

A police spokeswoman added that, out of an abundance of caution, police were dispatched to the North Street, Pembroke location this morning to reassure those in the area.

The police spokeswoman said: “The spreading of disinformation is unhelpful and may cause unnecessary anxiety to people in the community.

“We urge the public not to engage in such practices.

“Should a significant event take place, the public will be informed by police via proper media communications.”
