Two of Bermuda’s police officers have joined an international cybercrime forum in Brazil.

The Bermuda Police Service said they worked “closely” with international partners to “prevent and detect cybercrime through the sharing of information”.

It added that the BPS played “a significant role in the dismantling of an international gang of credit card fraudsters”, after two people, said to be members, were arrested on the island.

The BPS said that intelligence acquired was “instrumental in the furtherance of efforts to bring other members to justice”.

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith and Acting Chief Inspector Mark Tomlinson attended the Ninth Americas Working Group Meeting on Cybercrime.

The officers addressed the gathering on measures and countermeasures implemented by the BPS to deal with criminals operating online.
