Man arrested after shots fired at police
A man was taken into custody, and two others arrested on drug charges, in the wake of gunshots exchanged with police on August 24.
A police spokesman said that an 18-year-old man was apprehended at about 3pm on Saturday, in connection with the incident, in which police responding to an incident at Khyber Pass, Warwick, were fired upon and returned fire — said to be a first for the island.
Two other men were arrested on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs, and drug equipment. A number of residences and public areas in Southampton were also searched, with items seized.
Detective Superintendent Sherwin Joseph, the senior investigating office, thanked the community for providing “invaluable information that has assisted us with this investigation”.
He added: “However, I wish to appeal to persons living in the Random Lane, Lusher Hill, Spice Hill, Pearman’s Hill, Camp Hill, Horseshoe Road, Scenic Heights and South Avenue areas, to contact us should you recall any suspicious activities, between 10pm on August 23 and 4am on August 24.”
Mr Joseph asked for residents to check their security cameras for “any persons who seem out of place, whether walking, or on a motorcycle within that time frame”.
