Three arrested after guns and drugs seized
Three men have been arrested in a police operation that also netted two guns, ammunition and illegal drugs with a street value of more than $700,000.
According to a police spokesman, a team from the Bermuda Police Service’s specialist investigations unit and task force carried out the operation on Monday.
Three men aged 19, 27 and 35 were arrested, while a fourth suspect, a 29-year-old man, is being sought in connection with the investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith, of the specialist investigations unit, said: “The seizure of these two firearms brings to 14 the number of these deadly weapons taken off the street by police in a ten-month period.
“The seizure of these two firearms as well as ammunition and illegal drugs is quite significant and would have prevented severe injury or loss of life.
“It is also testament to the commitment and determination of officers of your Bermuda Police Service, as well as our colleagues at sister agency Bermuda Customs Department, to protecting our community against the dangers posed by individuals who choose to become involved in illicit and criminal activity.”
The spokesman said convictions for firearms and ammunition offences carry a minimum sentence of ten years, while drugs possession convictions can carry a maximum life sentence.
The three suspects are expected to appear in court in due course.
