A police raid on Monday in which two firearms were seized, along with ammunition and controlled drugs, has led to two further arrests.

Police said that a 29-year-old male wanted in connection with the operation turned himself in at 10.40am yesterday at Hamilton Police Station.

A second man has since been arrested, a police spokesman added.

Three male suspects aged 19, 27 and 35 were already taken into custody.

It brings the total arrests to five in an operation credited with taking the number of illegal guns seized by police in a ten-month period to 14.

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Smith of the specialist crime unit said: “The Bermuda Police Service is unwavering in its commitment to rid the island of guns and gang activity.

“We remain committed to our mandate of making Bermuda safer and are resolute in the pursuit of justice to ensure that those responsible for breaking the law and causing disruption to civility are held accountable.”
