Two injured in separate knife attacks over the weekend

A man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the upper body in the early hours yesterday.

The incident took place shortly before 1am at the Zen Lounge on Somerset Road in Sandys.

According to police, the 35-year-old victim was reportedly driven from the scene in a private vehicle, before being transferred to an ambulance that was already in the area responding to an unrelated medical incident.

A police spokesman said: “He was subsequently taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where, at last check, he continued to receive treatment for his injury, which is considered life-threatening.”

The incident was the second assault involving a bladed weapon over the weekend.

At about 7.45pm on Saturday, a 52-year-old man was attacked outside the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street.

He told officers that he was near the doorway of the club when an unknown man described as tall, of slim build and dark-complexion made a comment to him.

The suspect then allegedly pushed the victim to the ground before a second suspect pulled a machete from his waistband and assaulted him.

The victim received an injury to his right hand and was able to get to Hamilton Police Station near by to report the attack.

He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injury and discharged.

Both matters are under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the main police number, 295-0011, or 211, or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers number, 800-8477.
