A homeless man has admitted illegally entering a high-end Pembroke hotel, saying he was seeking shelter from the rain and needed rest.

Coolridge Eve, 66, pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court yesterday to occupying a room in the Poinciana Wing of the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club on October 20.

Eve told the court: “I want to express my apologies. My only intention was to get out of the rain. I told the security guard I needed to get rest.”

Nicole Smith, for the defence, said that Eve could benefit from a social inquiry report and a Bermuda Assessment and Referral Centre evaluation, which was granted.

Magistrate Maria Sofianos set the matter for sentencing on December 4.
