A Warwick community hopes to come together on Saturday to take a stand against violence.

The Garden Ministry and partners announced that they will hold a prayer vigil at the Cedar Hill Salvation Army car park at 4.30pm.

Chaplain Kevin Santucci said that the Cedar Hill community, like others across the island, faced challenges that seemingly overshadowed the positive activities in the area.

“It is our goal in Cedar Hill to start the healing from ground zero to bring our community back together by this prayer vigil,” he said.

“We invite the residents of Cedar Hill and the friends of Cedar Hill, Warwick to join us for this vigil against violence.”

He urged people taking part to either bring a candle or be prepared to turn on their phone light as part of a call to stand united against violence in the neighbourhood.

The call came about a week after two men were injured in a shooting in the Cedar Heights Lane area.

The duo, aged 53 and 38, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Police have urged witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who may have seen two people speeding on a motorcycle immediately after the shooting, which took place at about 9.10pm on November 21.

The Bermuda Police Service said on Saturday: “It is understood that immediately after the shooting, two persons dressed in dark clothing were seen on a motorcycle speeding in an easterly direction along Harbour Road.

“Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen individuals fitting this description in the area of Cedar Hill, St Mary’s Road, Warwick, and Harbour Road, shortly before or after the shooting.

“We wish to thank those members of the public who have so far come forward with information on this incident.”
