Warning on public transport card scam

The scam has appeared on social media (Image supplied)

The Government has sounded the alarm over a scam circulating on social media advertising a public transport “Smart Pass”.

The fraudulent advertisement claims a card can be purchased for $2.55 and provides public transportation for six months.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Public Transportation said: “This advertisement is a scam and has no affiliation with the Department of Public Transportation or the Government of Bermuda.

“The DPT strongly urges the public to avoid clicking any links associated with this ad, as doing so may expose users to personal data theft or financial fraud.

“We advise all customers to only rely on official government communication channels for accurate information regarding public transportation services.”

The official website forms.gov.bm/shorelink provides information about Shorelink — the unified transportation brand for Bermuda’s bus and ferry system.

The Government alerted the community to a similar public transport scam in October.
