Man in hospital after firearms incident

A firearms incident in Paget has left a man requiring hospital treatment, police have confirmed.

A police spokesman said that a member of the public saw the man lying in the road on Tribe Road No 5, near Ord Road, at about 12.45am this morning.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector Clifton Roberts confirmed that the man was found with a head injury and that the witness immediately contacted emergency services.

The man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where at last check he was being treated for his injuries.

Mr Roberts added: “We have had our forensics team arrive here and at this time we can confirm that there was a discharge of a firearm and that the matter at present is under full investigation.”

Mr Roberts could not speak on the extent of the man’s injuries or how many rounds were discharged.

But he added: “Once we’re able to, we will give a more extensive update as fast as we can.”
