The Bermuda Police Service responded to about 250 calls over the festive season, which resulted in dozens of arrests for various offences.

Officers made 47 arrests between December 24 and January 2.

Of those, 21 were for offences such as theft, assault and drug-related crimes, while 17 arrests were for outstanding warrants.

The BPS said nine arrests were made for impaired driving — six were at sobriety checkpoints.

Laser speed checks were also carried out as well as stop-and-searches under Section 315F of the Criminal Code.

The BPS added: “Our officers engaged with 593 vehicles and their occupants.”

Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons said: “We're grateful for a relatively peaceful holiday period. Thank you to our community for your co-operation and support.

“We wish everyone a prosperous and safe new year.”

The BPS said it remained committed to making the island safe and added: “We appreciate the trust you place in us.

“Our officers will continue to serve with honesty, integrity, professionalism and compassion.”
