A man was arrested after a quantity of suspected controlled drugs was found in luggage at LF Wade International Airport.

The Bermuda Police Service said that the 47-year-old Bermudian man was detained shortly after 3pm last Friday after a search of his luggage by customs officials.

The BPS drugs unit was notified and the man was arrested on suspicion of importation of controlled drugs.

Inspector Nidol Barker said: “This seizure is significant and carries an estimated street value of approximately $700,000.

“Thanks to the vigilance of our partners at HM Bermuda Customs, these items were prevented from making it on to the streets, where they could have posed a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of members of our community.”

An investigation into the matter is under way and the man was expected to appear in court “in due course”, the BPS said.
