Arrest ‘imminent’ after stolen bikes recovered

Police recovered two stolen motorcycles over the weekend and said that an arrest in relation to one was expected soon.

A spokesman said today that officers were on patrol on North Shore Road in Flatts around midnight on Saturday when they saw a male motorcyclist in the parking lot of the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

The rider sped off in a westward direction along Middle Road as they approached him, forcing them to follow in pursuit.

Officers tracked the man to Vesey Street, through Loyal Hill Pass, and on to North Shore Road towards Pembroke.

The rider eventually abandoned the motorcycle near the junction of Palmetto Road and Parsons Road and fled on foot towards North Shore Road.

A check revealed that this motorcycle had been reported stolen.

Later, at about 3.30am that same night, officers were on patrol on Front Street, Hamilton, when they saw a motorcycle leave Hamilton in an easterly direction.

They followed the rider with their emergency equipment activated and instructed him to stop.

The rider complied and switched off the bike engine, but switched the engine on again as the officer approached, and sped down Crow Lane and back towards Hamilton.

Officers followed the motorcyclist as he rode along Spurling Hill and made an illegal right turn on to Cavendish Road.

When police made it to the junction of Middle Road and Montpelier Road, they saw the same motorcycle lying in the road with its engine running.

The motorcycle was impounded and later discovered to have been reported stolen repeatedly.

The police spokesman said that while a search in the area for the rider was unsuccessful, an arrest in relation to this matter was “imminent”.
