Police arrest suspect who attempted to flee on foot
Police officers arrested a man after a foot chase in Hamilton yesterday.
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said that shortly before 10am, officers approached a man seated in a parked car on Parliament Street in relation to a report made to police.
“While speaking with the subject, officers observed a clear plastic bag containing what appeared to be the controlled drug, cannabis, in a conspicuous location inside the vehicle,” he said.
“The subject was informed that he would be detained for a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972.
“He was initially compliant, but upon exiting the vehicle, he ran off with the officers giving chase.
“The suspect made his way into a nearby business, where he was located and detained without further incident.”
The spokesman said that the suspect was arrested for an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1972 and transported to Hamilton Police Station.
He added: “There were no injuries to any of the parties involved and no damage to any property during this event.”
