Sports club speaks out after parking lot assault
A workmen’s club has condemned antisocial behaviour after an assault on its property.
A man suffered head injuries after he was attacked by a gang disguised with face masks and helmets with tinted visors outside the Hamilton Parish Workmen’s Club on Sunday afternoon.
In a statement posted on social media, the executive committee of the Hamilton Parish Workmen’s Club announced that they were aware of “a recent incident” that took place in the parking lot on the club premises.
“We want to assure our members and the broader community that we do not condone or support any form of antisocial behaviour,” the statement said.
“As a community-centred organisation we are committed to fostering a safe, welcoming and respectful environment for all.
“We take this matter seriously and are working closely with the necessary parties to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to address the situation.”
The notice continued: “HWPC is actively co-operating with local authorities and community partners to resolve this matter in a manner that upholds our values of accountability and support to those affected and take proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“We appreciate the trust that our members and the wider community place in us and we remain committed to ensuring that Hamilton Parish Workmen’s Club remains a space where all individuals feel safe and respected.”
Police have said the victim in the incident was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the attack had been launched.
