Hatherley king of the road

Mark Hatherley of Team Winner’s Edge secured his third win of the season in the Fast Forward Bicycle Works Road Race at Southside over the weekend.Brian Drea of Team Madison finished second ahead of Dominique Mayho who won the sprint for third.The 50-mile race started next to the Southside Police Station before heading west to Knapton Hill, over Sayle Road to Middle Road, continuing west to Montepelier Road and Black Watch Pass before returning east to the St David’s Lighthouse.The race was neutralised until Black Watch Pass at which point Mayho and his Team Madison team-mates began attacking.Grant Goudge of Fast Forward Bicycle Works attempted to escape as well, but with the aide of a tailwind it was difficult for any attack to be successful until after the turnaround of the Swizzle Inn roundabout.Returning to St David’s, Mayho launched the first serious salvo of the race. Drea and Hatherley followed and the trio established a gap.Neil de ste Croix of Fast Forward Bicycle Works, Marcio Talbot and Mark Lombardi of Team Tokio and Dwyer Williams of Team Focus then worked together to bridge the gap, managing to keep the lead to 15-20 seconds.On the run-in to the finish from St David’s Lighthouse Fast Forward’s Ian Port attempted to close the gab without success.With finish line in sight, Hatherley beat Drea to the line.Karen Bordage of Team Winner’s Edge was the top woman.In the adult B race Tom McMahon of Team Madison finished first ahead of Team Tokia’s Jason Piney and Glenn Franklin of Team Winner’s Edge.Team Crime Stoppers swept the Adult B race with Michael Thomas, McKeon Stevens and Anton Gilbert claiming the top three places.Daniel Oatley of Team Fast Forward beat Rico Smith of Winner’s Edge and Nate Hartwig to win the Junior A race.Alex Pilgrim of Fast Forward won the Junior B race ahead of Team Focus rider Zion Dowling and Tristan Narraway of Team Tokio.Crime Stoppers’ Malik Joell finished ahead of Nicholas Pilgrim of Fast Forward in the Junior C race. Joell’s team-mate Jayden Ming was third.After 14 races and with two remaining, Team Winner’s Edge have pulled ahead in the overall competition with 837 points. Bicycle Works Fast Forward Freight trail with 657 points and Team Madison are third with 498 points.Team Tokio have 180 points, three ahead of Team Focus.
