Mayho relishing French experience
Bermuda cyclist Dominique Mayho increased his distance load last week as he continues to develop at the international level in France. For the last six weeks Mayho has been gaining valuable experience in Europe as he competes with racing club UCC Vivonne under the watchful eye of top coach Philippe Mauduit.Coming off of a week where he completed 282 kilometres in more than ten hours, he upped his mileage to 336 miles in 12 hours, five minutes.“Since I’ve been in France I’ve been training mostly on the same roads because I didn’t want to get lost,” said Mayho, Bermuda Young Male Athlete of the Year. “This week I decided to do a little exploring, and found some really nice routes for training, almost getting lost almost every day.“This week I had one race on Sunday with the category one guys. The course was mainly flat with one short hill, and I can see that I’m getting much fitter because the last time I raced with these guys two weeks ago, I only lasted an hour.“This time was much better, I was in the front group until two laps to go.“I think I got a top ten finish overall and I won the category two division so they gave me a cup and flowers.”The reigning national road race and time trial champion continues his training this week before competing again on Sunday in category one again.Mayho’s training stint in France could not have been timelier as it will also serve as ideal preparation for October’s Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships to be held in Antigua
