Neil de ste Croix road a steady race last Sunday at Ferry Reach park to claim the Winners Edge Mountain Biking Championships.De se Croix kept his composure after fellow race favourite Dominique Mayho sprinted out to a one minute lead on the first lap.In the end he held off Jean-Sebastian Lareau and Che'quan Richardson for the win, with Mayho dropping out and Mark Hatherley and Phil Trussell abandoning their title quests with punctures.Lareau finished one minuted behind the champions, while a further eight minutes back was Richardson to round out the podium places.Flat tyres were also the order of the day in the junior male race, with Anthony Smith forced to drop out, leaving it to Deshi Smith and Daniel Hetzel to battle for the title.Smith also punctured but had the foresight to bring his repair kit with him and quickly was back under way with Hetzel trying to take advantage of the stoppage.The result remained in Smith’s favour, winning by eight minutes.Gabriella Arnold was the repeat Junior Female winner, showing why she was nominated for Junior Female Athlete of the Year.She pushed her pace all the way to the end, leaving Tristan Narraway and Jessie Godfrey to grab second and third respectively.For the first time in several years there were no entrants in the Female Open category, leaving the title unclaimed.The 13 to 16 race was won rising star Robin Horsfield, while Cristian Roque out raced the rest of the 12 and under group to the title.National Champion titles were awarded from the major races of the day and the titles now sit with Che'quan Richardson (Male Open), Gabriella Arnold (Junior Female) and Deshi Smith (Junior Male).
