Madison Digicel begin season with a bang
Team Madison Digicel started the 2016 road season off with a bang after winning yesterday’s Bermuda Bicycle Association team time trial.
The foursome of Dominique Mayho, Phillip Mace, Mark Robinson and Kwame Curling claimed the overall title in a time of 24min 28sec, making the loop at an average speed of 26.5mph.
Team Tokio foursome David McComas, Fabian Schoenenberg, Pete Crayford and Dylan Hill took second, followed by Team Rampage in third, comprised of Neil Lupsic, Anton Schmitz, Spencer Butterfield and Jonathan Herring.
Winner’s Edge posted the second fastest time of 25:53 but was disqualified because of a gearing infraction by a junior member of their team.
Also starting the new road campaign off on the front foot was the team consisting of multiple Bermuda Day Half Marathon winner Ashley Eswanik, Allison Petty and Kristin Palmer who won the women’s team time trial title.
Bicycle Works Women foursome Wenda Roberts, Earlena Ingham, Zoey Roberts and Alyssa Rowse placed second followed by the Winners Edge team of Tammy Ingham, Julia Hawley, Eileen Mullowney and Joanne Medeiros in third.
The union category was won by Bermuda Cycling Academy’s team of Ben Edwards, Rajul Matthie-Shakir and Tre Brangman, while their younger team-mates Ensue-Nico Davis, Manning Smith, Nazarai Fox and Ahzai Smith finished second.
Yesterday’s time trial, held in near perfect conditions, featured twenty-nine teams that competed on the 10.8 mile course that ran from the Paget Post office to Barnes Corner via Middle Road and then back along South Shore Road to Bermuda College.
Team times were taken from the front wheel of the third rider of a team to cross the finish line.
The next road event will be the BBA time trial around Harrington Sound to be held on March 20.
