Conor White has reflected on his medal success at the Elite Caribbean Cycling Championships in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, at the weekend.

White, who competed in the under-23 division, claimed silver in the time-trial on Saturday, completing the 30-kilometre course in 40min 40sec to place fifth overall.

“I’m super happy,” said White, who came second in the Presidents Cup in Bermuda this month.

“I didn’t know what to expect going into the race, as it was my first time competing [at the championships].

“I really liked the course as it was really flat, which is my preferred terrain. I felt really good throughout the time-trial and was really surprised with the time I was able to achieve.”

White, the national time-trial champion, placed 33rd in the road race on Sunday, while Dominique Mayho came seventh to secure his best finish at the championships.

“It was a super-fast race with non-stop attacks throughout,” said White, who attends Brock University in St Catherine’s, Ontario. “I feel as though I had a strong race, and I’m really happy for Dominique who came seventh.”

Caitlin Conyers claimed a pair of medals at the championships and secured Bermuda a spot at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru, next summer.

Conyers finished second in the road race to earn the island a place at the multi-sport event.

She also won bronze in the time-trial in her first international race, completing the 20km distance in 30:13.

Gabriella Arnold was the only rider in the women’s under-23 road race, taking the title four years after winning the junior race in the same city.
