Ongoing roadworks have forced the Bermuda Bicycle Association to move the National Criterium Championships from Hamilton to St David’s Motor Sports Park on Sunday.

“The Criterium Championship is the final event in the CG Insurance Bermuda National Cycling Championships Series,” said Debbie Titterton Narraway of the BBA. “Due to a large number of roadworks projects and events happening on Island, a suitable closed-circuit course was not able to be secured for Sunday.

“With many of our international riders on the island seeking the championship title, it was important for us to find an alternative location to host Sunday’s criterium events.

“We are extremely grateful to the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association for enabling the BBA to utilise the karting track at the Bermuda Motorsport Park.

“Criterium racing consists of multiple laps around a closed circuit racing with a specified time frame. “Crits tend to be are more intense and faster requiring a different set of skills primarily based around cornering, positioning and sprinting, providing a great spectator opportunity.”

Before the championship categories get under way, the BBA is hosting free, fun races for riders aged 11 to 14, giving younger cyclists an opportunity to try their hand at racing.

All riders must be comfortable and confident with going fast, riding in a group and cornering.
