Kavin Smith out to extend lead as mountain bike season resumes
Kavin Smith will be aiming to extend his lead at the top of the standings as the One Communications Mountain Bike Race Series returns tomorrow.
Following a month-long break over the festive period, the series, presented by Fat Tire Massive, heads to Lagoon Park in Sandys, for the third race of the season.
Smith heads into the event with a narrow five-point lead over Alan Potts in the Male Open 60 Minute category, having followed up a second-place finish behind Conor White in the season opener at Government House by taking full advantage of the absence of his main rival to claim victory at South Shore.
Potts holds a seven-point advantage over both Hans Hirschi and Dominique Mayho, with Cameron Morris completing the top five, a further two points adrift.
Jennifer Wilson leads the way in the Female Open 60 Minute category, holding a seven-point lead over nearest rival Ashley Robinson, with Caitlin Conyers a further 15 points adrift in third place.
The Male Open 30 Minute category standings remain tightly contested with just seven points separating the top three riders, with Dominic Smith leading on 40 points, two ahead of Daniel Ringer, who is five clear of Peter Dunne.
The corresponding female division sees Rebecca May top the three-rider standings on 47 points, five ahead of nearest rival Florence Pedro, with Zina Jones, on 25 points, aiming to cut the deficit.
The Male Novice category is also hotly contested with Mark Anthony Domingo topping the standings on 25 points, just three ahead of Chris Fosker, who is a further two ahead of Daniel Heinlein and Rui Moniz.
It is even closer in the Female Novice category with both Sharon Hammond and Kim Raymond both on 25 points.
