Conor White clinches podium place in California Criterium Series
Conor White continued his encouraging early-season form with a podium finish in the California Criterium Series.
Competing in the second of the six-race series within the Pro 1,2,3 Division last weekend, the 23-year-old produced an assured performance, joining a break away before sprinting his way to a third-place finish from a field of 101 riders.
“With more than 100 riders in the race it was full gas from the gun, said White. ”A breakaway started to form about ten minutes into the 75-minute race.
“I stayed patient expecting the breakaway to come back to the field. There was a point where I knew that the break had a good chance of staying away, so I found a good opportunity to get away from the peloton and bridge up to the breakaway.
“We worked well together and managed to stay away. It came down to a sprint and thankfully I was able to finish third.”
The impressive display followed on from another strong showing in the opening round of the series in which the Bermudian rider played a vital supporting role for team mate Lucas Eamon.
Having done a lot of the pacing work at the front of the lead pack for prolonged periods, White ultimately settled for a 64th-place finish, with Eamon narrowly missing out on the podium in finishing fourth.
