Conor White back with a bang to win at Southlands
Conor White enjoyed a successful return to the island when claiming victory as a guest rider in the sixth round of the One Communications Mountain Bike Race Series at Southlands.
Competing in the Male Open 60 Minute category on Sunday, White, who has been competing in the United States for road racing team Austin Aviators, completed eight laps in a time of 1hr 7min 59sec.
Series leader Kavin Smith remained on course for his first overall title, finishing second after completing seven laps in 1:00:22, ahead of Alan Potts, who completed the same amount of laps in 1:03:12.
Ashley Robinson saw her advantage at the top the Female Open 60 Minute standings diminished as she could finish only third.
The top three riders all completed five laps but it was Pansy Olander who took top spot, crossing the line in a winning time of 1:00:43, comfortably clear of Jennifer Wilson (1:09:54), who moved to within three points of leader Robinson, who clocked 1:11:09.
There was also victory on the day for Sherman Darrell, who came out on top in the Male Open 30 Minute race. He managed three laps in a winning time of 33min 56sec. Dominic Smith and David Wolfe also managed the same amount of laps with the former taking second place in 34:23, two seconds ahead of his rival.
Rebecca May prevailed in the two-rider Female Open 30 Minute category, completing three laps in 40:03 to beat Florence Pedro, who managed a lap less in the allotted time.
In the Male 13 to 16 age group race, Wyatt Hall claimed victory, completing four laps in 33:04, ahead of Zach Moniz and Joshua Wilson, who managed the same amount of laps in 35:48 and 37:33 respectively.
