VT Construction dominate team time-trial
It proved a dominant start to the new road racing season for VT Construction in the Bermuda Bicycle Association’s traditional Team Time-Trial.
The race saw teams of three or four riders compete on a nine-mile course from the former Paget post office along Middle Road, up Lighthouse Road and then back to Bermuda College on South Road.
Dominique Mayho, Jackson Langley and Cameron Morris, representing VT Construction, gave an impressive performance in the Open category to cross the line in 22mins, close to a minute clear of the team of Steve Smith, Jamie Cousins and Philip Mace, also from VT Construction.
Bermuda Rulers Cycle Club’s Wouter Aarts, Kian Wookely, Andrew Charlesworth and Stephen Ryan rounded out the podium.
The top team in the Women’s category was another VT Construction grouping of Maddie Durkin, Cora Lee Starzomski and Rose-Anna Hoey, who crossed the line in 26:14, just 15 seconds ahead of the Bicycle Works team of Jennifer Lightbourne, Louise Wells, Laurie Orchard, and Pansy Olander, with the Bermuda Junior Cycling women’s team claiming third place.
One of the more impressive efforts of the morning was turned in by the team of Andrew Thomas, Zach Moniz, Dylan Eiselt and Jacob Wright, all aged between 13 and 14. Their time of 25:45 saw them claim an eleventh-place finish overall and good enough to top the Junior category.
The next event on the BBA road racing calendar will be an individual time trial on Sunday, April 2, but before that, the Winners Edge National Mountain Biking Championships is scheduled for Sunday, taking place at Southlands in Warwick, starting at 9am.
