Dominique Mayho claims victory in first Criterium of season
Dominique Mayho prevailed in the first Criterium race of the season in St George’s on Sunday.
Hosted by the Bermuda Rouleurs Cycle Club, the combined Men’s A and B Category was closely fought with Mayho crossing the line in 38min 19.368sec, less than ten seconds ahead of VT Construction team-mate Jamie Cousins (38:28.635).
VT Construction riders completed a clean sweep of the podium places with Cameron Morris finishing third in 39:23.096.
There was also a close battle for victory in the Women’s race with Annabelle Miller claiming the win in 27:26.092 with less than four seconds to spare over Panzy Olander, who clocked 27:29.583. Finishing a lap down was Jennifer Lightbourne, in 27:37.387, to finish third.
Despite those tight tussles, the closest finish of the day was reserved for the Men’s C Category between Anthony Smith and Will Drea. Less than a second separated the pair with Smith (30:37.097) crossing the line just seven tenths of a second ahead of Drea (30:37.167).
Andrew Thomas was also in the hunt also finishing less than a second behind the (30:37.590), with Jacob Wright finishing fourth (30:38.222).
There was also delight for Dominic Wright, who clinched victory in the Youth A category in a time of 16:32.043, ahead of Romy Drea (16:48.37) and Jonah MacGuiness (16:48.63).
In the corresponding B category race, Gordon Smith prevailed, crossing the line in a time of 20:43.55, slightly less than six seconds clear of Makao Butterfield, who clocked 20:49.28, with Jens Drea completing the podium places a further second adrift in 21:45.82.
