Tight finishes galore at Winners Edge Road Race
Sprint finishes were the order of the day at the Winners Edge Road Race in St David’s on Sunday.
With more than 50 riders across four categories, there was some highly competitive action with less than a second separating the winners and runners-up in three of the divisions.
The top three home in the women’s race were split by less than a second with Annabelle Miller crossing the line in 1hr 22min and 52secs, just 0.188 seconds ahead of Panzy Olander with Ashley Couper close behind in third.
The easiest winner of the day came in Category A, which featured the highest standard of riders among the men.
It was again the VT construction team who came to the fore, with the first five home competing for that outfit, but it was Dominique Mayho who took home bragging rights coming home nearly 30 seconds clear of Jackson Langley with Cameron Morris rounding out the top three.
Five of the 16 riders in the Category B division failed to finish with hot conditions taking their toll on the field but Che’Quan Richardson managed to keep his cool to beat Wouter Aarts and Kavin Smith in a sprint finish with less than two tenths of a second between them.
Category C featured the biggest field of 20 cyclists and just two seconds separated the first six home.
Anthony Smith claimed top honours, narrowly edging out Jacob Wright and Peter Dunne.
