Kaden Hopkins agonisingly misses out on road race medal at CAC Games

Agonisingly close: Kaden Hopkins finished fourth in the men’s road race at the CAC Games in Salvador.

Kaden Hopkins was pipped to a bronze medal by just a second in the men’s road race cycling at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador yesterday.

In a thrilling sprint finish to the line, the Bermudian was agonisingly edged out of the final podium place by Dorian Monterroso of Guatemala, as he settled for fourth in a time of 3hr 51min 13sec.

Gold went to Venezuela’s Orluis Aular in a winning time of 3:51:10, with Miguel Ángel López, of Colombian pipping Monterroso to silver, with both given a time of 3:51:12.

Meanwhile, Conor White, who won bronze in Wednesday’s time-trial, claimed a top-ten finish, crossing the line in ninth in 3:51:13.

Earlier in the day, Caitlin Conyers was fourteenth in the women’s road race in 2:52:21.
