Caitlin Conyers finishes 45th in World Championships time-trial
Caitlin Conyers kicked off her campaign at the UCI Road World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, today.
The Bermudian finished 45th among the field of 85 cyclists that competed in the elite women’s individual time trial.
Even though it was not one of her better displays on the bike, Conyers thoroughly enjoyed the experience of representing the island on the international scene again.
“Might not have been my best day performance or power-wise, but I’ll tell you I’ve never enjoyed being on a bike as much as today,” she posted on social media. “There’s nothing like wearing the Bermuda colours and having people lining the roads to cheer for you.
“Thank you to every single person that shouted for me, rang your cow bells, watched on TV and especially to all of the volunteers, security, police, roadworks, organisers, etc that made this day possible for all of us. I truly felt the energy from all around the world!”
Chloe Dygert, of the United States, won the race, with Australian Grace Brown and Austrian Christina Schweinberger taking second and third to round off the podium places.
Conyers, the national women’s time trial, road race and criterium champion, is making her debut at the annual championships, which she was denied doing in Belgium in 2021 after testing positive for Covid-19 prior to her departure.
The 33-year-old, who is attempting to become the first Bermudian female cyclist to qualify for the Olympic Games, will be back in action on Sunday when she competes in the elite women’s road race.
