Nicholas Narraway excited about move to Team California
Bermudian professional cyclist Nicholas Narraway has joined Team California in the United States for the 2024 season.
Narraway, 21, formerly with Spanish team Telcom-On Clima-Osés Const, is heading to the US at the end of this month.
Speaking after securing second place in the Bermuda Bicycle Association Presidents Cup on Sunday, Narraway told of how excited he was by the prospect of participating in some of the big races Stateside.
“It’s a good opportunity for me to compete in the biggest races in the US,’’ he said. “I just got into contact with the director through someone I know, and just went from there.
“I’m heading back to California on December 31 to start training there for me to get used to those roads out there.
“I’ll be there until June, come back for the national championships and then go back to Spain.
In announcing Narraway’s switch, Team California spoke glowingly of the young rider.
“Nicholas brings a ton of experience to the team,’’ Team California said. “Apart from holding two national titles, he’s also had the pleasure of racing U23 Worlds. And in addition to his most outstanding achievements, Nicholas had an impressive ride at GMSR [Green Mountain Stage Race ], placing sixth in the individual time-trial and eleventh in the overall classification. Welcome to the team, @Nicholasnarraway.”
Narraway, a member of the Bermuda contingent last year at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, had an impressive showing at the Caribbean championships in Guadeloupe in October. He picked up three medals at this event — bronze in the elite men’s time-trial, and gold in the under-23 time-trial and road race.
